Are you ready for it – the new influx of clients needing help?

Whether you work in mental health or physical health we all know that with the world and local news over the past 4 days people will be struggling.

AND if you live on the Eastern seaboard of Australia, it’s almost like – here we go again, floods – again.

AND if you live in the USA we have had mass shootings, it’s like – here we go again.

AND if you live in Europe – you are thinking,  what on earth …

There is a sense of impending doom, and many of us will this week start to see clients who are feeling anxious about world events.

As the people treating the people we have a sense of impending doom we can’t quite articulate.

You’ve tried not to obsess over news reports.

Or health information.

Or flooding.

When do we wear a mask, when don’t we?

What rules apply to whom and when.

Supermarkets not able to supply – well much of anything.

Noticing the whole supply chain is broken.

Is school going back, wait it is, it isn’t, maybe it is.

And then there are enquiries;

Referrals;

People reaching out for help.

Maybe you dread Sundays knowing there are new clients ready to be seen, and that there will be that special referral source who expresses “they really need help now”.

Health professionals, I know you care, and I know you have the skills to help.

But can we please please please please take a moment (or 7) to make sure that we are not overcommitting.

And this over-commitment doesn’t just mean the number of clients booked in a day it also means:

What do our families need from us?

What do our team members need from us?

And what do we need from us?

Yes, our communities need services, but unless we are healthy, and fit for purpose we are NOT going to have the type of influence that we know we can have.

Being in private practice can be isolating.

And many of us understand that when we are isolated the only people we are having conversations with are Me, Myself, and I.

The problem with this collection is that we provide a terrible perspective for ourselves.

In fact, this is the worst kind of board of advisors we can create.

This is why if we are going to keep doing the work of health professionals in a day and age when the world reminds us that there is so much out of our control, we need to be surrounded by people who can help us with PERSPECTIVE.

We need to have the right people around us.

Those who can help us to slow down

When we need to back up.

When we need to ask for help,

When we need to get the help we need,

And make sure we get the right help.

This is one of the reasons why group coaching can be so powerful.  It’s not ONLY about the monthly content to learn new information and apply a new skill …

It’s about having a tribe of people around you who have your back – so that you can keep doing the work you love the way you love to do it with the people you are best able to serve.

Dear health professional reading this blog,  I’m worried, I’m worried that more and more health professionals in private practice will disconnect.

I’m worried that too many of us will spin around in a shame spiral wondering how we can help others when we feel incompetent.

Let’s work this out together.

Want to know how?

This is the time to reach out and book a consult with me so we can map out how to make sure you are doing the work you love without burning out
