Are you one of the 2,080,000,000?

Burnout has been around for a long time, the concept was first researched in the 70s.

And here we are in 2022 still talking about it.

We are writing about it.

There are 100’s of courses on preventing it.

And yet do a Google search of the term and you get 2,080,000,000  results in 0.61 seconds.

This means that a LOT of internet traffic on this very topic.

What this also suggests to me is that despite knowing about this health risk for the last 50 years, little has been done to help health professionals manage this risk.

Research shows us that health professionals are leaving the industry within the first 3 years of them graduating due to burnout and related symptoms.

And this research has been around longer than the pandemic

I am concerned because we have new inexperienced people working in the industry or worn out and experienced people working in the industry.

This means the ability to add to the body of knowledge becomes compromised.

When we are too focused on self-care as a reward or when we’ve done enough, produced enough, and not focused on what we need to do to maintain ourselves to remain fit for the purpose we were engaged for, then we will continue to burn out

In short – nothing is going to change unless we, as the people who know about this, actually actively do something to make the change.

It’s really concerning that so many people chose to leave health professions over something that we know a lot about.

We know the need is huge so ensuring health professionals remain fit for purpose by creating the daily habits that enable them to care for themselves is the way this conversation needs to change.

The better question for you to ask yourself then is:

How do I relate to my work as a health professional so that I can keep doing this work in a way that it does not harm me?

I wonder what would happen if we started talking about our relationship to our work, instead of the tasks of our work, if we would see the sustainable change that so many of us promote for other relationships in our lives…

And our work is a significant relationship wouldn’t you say

Starting September, for the next 3 months inside of You, The Entrepreneurial Clinician will be about how we create a way of working that allows us to grow without burning out.

❌ This won’t be more admonitions about the things you haven’t  done

❌ Or the guilt and shame about being at work a lot

❌ Or feeling like you have failed at your own self-care

This will be 3 months of opportunity to learn how to create the type of relationship with your work that replenishes you.

So that you can do more of the work you love to do and make the significant impact you were born to make

The time to join is now so that you can build the type of relationship with your work that replenishes you.
