Hope this finds you well in the midst of the unexpected rollercoaster that is life!

As I geared up for my sabbatical at the end of November 2023, guess what? Life threw a curveball, reminding me that even the best-laid plans can take a detour.

Picture this: a week before my well-deserved break, a key player – my practice manager – drops a bombshell, resigning with a mere four days’ notice. The day she was to bid adieu coincided with my own planned exit. Talk about timing!

I was not just disappointed about losing a reliable ally for my sabbatical journey but also saddened by bidding farewell to someone I’d grown deeply fond of. It hit hard; business owners are not immune to feeling betrayed and abandoned.

Now faced with a multiple-choice dilemma, I pondered: a) Cancel the sabbatical and superhero my way through, b) Shut down shop and hope for forgiveness, or c) Activate my resilience and breathe.

In the past, my lingering childhood attachment issues might’ve nudged me towards option b. However, the last three years have seen some personal growth. I recognize that the best course for my team, clients, and customers is for me to take this sabbatical – a chance to reflect, recharge, and realign.

Choosing resilience over reactivity, I’ll be diving deeper into family time, community connection, and maybe teaching Smudge a few new tricks. March is the target for my return, equipped with renewed energy and a fresh perspective.

This sabbatical  is about acknowledging my limits, creating space for clarity, and breaking free from the rinse-and-repeat cycle. No hypervigilance here – just a deliberate pause for self-discovery.

So, let’s catch up in March. Who knows what exciting transformations the business might undergo by then?
